RESIDENTS of Taman Seri Cendana on the mainland were treated to a lavish dinner in celebration of the recently observed Deepavali festivities at their premises today.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow graced the dinner, acknowledging the efforts that went into organising the event.
The dinner, amounting to a total of RM17,000, saw a generous contribution of RM7,000 from A. Balan, a resident and chief executive officer of Alam Aliran Kualiti Sdn Bhd.
The remaining RM10,000 was efficiently mobilised from the resident’s association fund.
Chow, as the guest of honour, commended the residents for their unity and togetherness, especially in coming together to celebrate the Festival of Lights.
“The essence of unity is pivotal in attaining our shared objectives, and it brings me joy to witness the residents of this community setting a commendable example in fostering unity within this area,” he remarked.
Speaking about the significance of Deepavali, Chow highlighted its transcendence of cultural and religious boundaries in Malaysia.
He emphasised the festival’s theme of triumph over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance, aligning it with the essence of the Penang2030 vision.
“Let us find inspiration to overcome challenges and work towards a brighter future for Penang,” Chow said in his speech.
Addressing concerns raised by residents, particularly the need for new traffic lights in view of the Penang Science Park in Bukit Minyak, Chow assured that the state government, through the Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP), would promptly look into the matter.
Additional suggestions, including the establishment of more recreational facilities and addressing traffic congestion in the Juru area, were also noted.
Event organising chairman B. Gokulan, Balan’s son, expressed gratitude to all residents for their participation.
He gave a special mention to Chow for adding significance to the event with his attendance despite a busy schedule.
During the dinner, Chow distributed gift packets to children that were present.
The resident’s association chairman Sim Shiau Juang was also present during the dinner.
