THE festive spirit was alive and vibrant this morning as the Penang Forward Sports Club (PFSC) hosted a special Christmas edition of its monthly ‘Tom Khoo Run 2024’. This free-for-all fun run not only celebrated fitness but also exemplified the values of community spirit, charity, and unity.
In his welcoming speech, PFSC chairman Lim Choo Hooi expressed his heartfelt gratitude to attendees and supporters who have played a pivotal role in the club’s growth over the years.
“As a non-profit organisation, Penang Forward Sports Club is committed to promoting healthy living and fostering stronger community bonds.
“We extend our deepest appreciation to the Penang government, the Penang State Sports Council, and our esteemed club advisor, Datuk Tom Khoo, for their unwavering support in helping us achieve our goals,” Lim said.
A highlight of the event was the presence of Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.
Acknowledging his attendance, Lim noted: “Your leadership, the Penang2030 vision, and the ‘LovePENANG’ campaign resonate deeply with our mission to promote a healthy and caring community.”
The event also highlighted PFSC’s charitable initiatives, with Lim recounting a recent story of solidarity within the club.
Members and supporters collectively raised RM20,940 in just a few days to help a fellow member, Ragu, whose house was destroyed in a fire.
“This incredible show of kindness embodies the true essence of community and solidarity, and I am profoundly touched by your generosity,” Lim said.
The Christmas edition of the ‘Tom Khoo Run’ attracted participants of all ages, spreading festive cheer while underscoring the importance of staying active.
Chow was visibly pleased with the strong turnout and enthusiasm of the participants.
“Your commitment to health and fitness is truly inspiring and serves as a wonderful reminder of the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
“I commend PFSC for consistently organising this monthly run, which not only encourages fitness but also strengthens community bonds.
“Under the excellent leadership of the PFSC committee members and volunteers, the club has significantly benefitted the community, supported the state’s vision, and provided an accessible platform for promoting healthy living,” Chow said.
He also lauded PFSC’s broader contributions to the community.
“The club’s active involvement in numerous social and community initiatives is commendable and reflects its dedication to making a positive impact,” Chow added.
