RIFLE Range, which houses the oldest public housing scheme in Penang, now has the first Automated External Defibrillator (AED) informative kiosk to provide emergency assistance to sudden cardiac arrest victims.
The kiosk, which costs about RM9,000, is placed at the bus stop of Rifle Range.
It was another initiative by the Lions Club of George Town Central.
Bukit Bendera MP Wong Hon Wai, who was present to officiate the launching of the AED interactive kiosk, was thankful to those who contributed their effort to the installation of AED.
“This device is important for the people, especially when someone collapsed due to cardiac arrest.
“It will be useful to equip the public with the knowledge of emergency response. There will be regular training sessions to ensure that the people know how to use the AED and the technique to perform the cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
“Many senior citizens are staying here and this device will be helpful,” he told reporters after launching the AED informative kiosk alongside Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow today.
Penang Heart Safe Society (PHSS) chairman Dr Luah Lean Wah said that regular training sessions would be held to educate the public.
“This is another milestone for us. Many AED devices have been installed in public places,” she said.
Among those present were Chow’s political secretary Teh Lai Heng, Senator Lim Hui Ying, Pulau Tikus assemblyman Chris Lee and Penang Island City Council (MBPP) councillors Connie Tan and Lee Wei Seang.
Earlier, Chow had attended the official opening of Wong’s third service centre in the Bukit Bendera parliamentary constituency.
He also gave out basic necessities to the needy families in Kebun Bunga and Air Putih constituencies.
