THE Sandilands Foreshore affordable housing project is expected to be completed by the year 2026, says caretaker state Local Government, Housing, Town and Planning Committee chairman Jagdeep Singh Deo.
According to Jagdeep, the housing project is set to provide 482 affordable housing units (800 to 900 square feet) and 321 low medium-cost housing units (700 square feet).
“Where else can you find low medium-cost housing units at RM72,500 and low-cost units at RM42,000 each?
“Penang is the only state that did not increase the price while other states have increased theirs,” Jagdeep said when he attended the offer letter handover ceremony at Sandilands Foreshore’s construction site.
It is learned that the first batch of applicants for the housing project received their offer letters today from Jagdeep at the ceremony.
Jagdeep also shared that the price of the Sandilands Foreshore housing units is reasonable as it is located in an urban area.
“Apart from announcing the project, we will also supervise the progress of the project until it is completed.
“The state government wants to build 220,000 affordable homes of various types by 2030 with more than 150,000 units completed so far.
“This includes low-cost units, low medium-cost units, affordable homes as well as rent-to-own homes.
“Although the state government has offered affordable homes (various types) to the people, they are having issues concerning bank loan approval which I will personally bring to the attention of the prime minister,” he added.
Meanwhile, former Pengkalan Kota assemblyman Daniel Gooi said that the former occupants of the land, where the construction of the Sandiland Foreshore housing project is taking place now, will be getting their respective units as compensation.
“They do not have to purchase it but will be given as compensation.
“Please contact the developer as soon as possible and fill up the affordable home application form (PN1) for further arrangements,” he added.
