First stage of feasibility study to upgrade pump houses at Taman Kerapu expected to be ready in August

THE first stage of a feasibility study to upgrade three pump houses at Taman Kerapu in Bagan Jermal is nearing completion and is expected to be completed next month.

 

Caretaker Penang Youth and Sports Committee chairman Soon Lip Chee, who is also the former Bagan Jermal assemblyman, said the Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) has engaged a consultancy service to conduct the study and prepare a design module for the upgrading project.

“The report from the first stage will be presented to the state government in August, following the conclusion of the state election.

 

“After that, a few more stages of the feasibility study will be conducted before the state government can finally approve the budget of about RM6 million for the upgrading project.

“The upgrading project for three pump houses at Taman Kerapu is crucial as the area has been prone to flooding for the past 40 years.

 

“So, we will do our best to make sure the project can be carried out smoothly and as soon as possible,” Soon told a press conference when he visited one of the three pump houses at Taman Kerapu in Bagan Jermal today.

 

Also present was MBSP councillor Ng Yee Siang.

 

According to Soon, a total of 1,500 residents in the area, including those in the industrial zone of Taman Kerapu, will benefit from this upgrading project.
