A Penang-based personal trainer has infused fitness, culture, and the spirit of unity into this year’s Chinese New Year celebrations, making them even more vibrant.
Robin Cheah, who merges traditional and contemporary dance styles to promote cultural appreciation and self-expression, performed at multiple events throughout the festivities.
His performances took place at various venues, including the Little Sisters of the Poor elderly home, Chiao Nan Primary School in Air Itam, and the recent large-scale Penang Miao Hui celebrations.
Speaking to Buletin Mutiara, Cheah said he is no stranger to cultural events as he believes dance can foster unity among the communities.
“The series of performances underscored the power of dance as a medium for cultural appreciation and community bonding.
“Seeing students gain confidence and excitement throughout this experience reaffirmed my passion – to help people to find joy on stage through dance,” he said.

Some of Cheah’s performances were also attended by Air Itam assemblyman Joseph Ng, who showed his support for the events.
Cheah emphasised the importance of blending traditional values with modern performances to create a meaningful sense of togetherness.
“The highlight was the Penang Miao Hui celebration, where open dance sessions encouraged families and individuals of all ages to participate,” he added.
