THE newly-elected chairman of the Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers Penang (FMM Penang) Datuk Lee Teong Li is committed to ensure that the association stays relevant to industry players in the state by continue to strengthen its relationship with the Penang government.
Lee, who is the director of Amphenol TCS (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, has been elected as the FMM Penang chairman for the 2021/2022 term and 2022/2023 term during the association’s recent annual general meeting.
He replaced Datuk Jimmy Ong, who was the chairman for the 2020/2021 term.
“I hope to serve our members of the association.
“As their new chairman, and with the new committee members, we will try our best to be the voice of the manufacturing industry in Penang,” Lee said during a courtesy call on Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow in Komtar today.
According to Lee, almost 80% of the FMM Penang members are from the small medium enterprises (SMEs) and small medium industries (SMIs).
“Majority of them are hugely affected by the Covid-19 pandemic that has hit our country and state in the past two years.
“We are committed to improving liaisons with the Penang and Federal government agencies.
“We want to work closely with them to solve any pressing issues raised by our members because SMEs and SMIs are the backbone of the state’s economy.
“We also want to strengthen our internal management, enhance staff learning, and create development initiatives,” he added.
Meanwhile, Chow congratulated Lee and the FMM Penang new committee members.
“We look forward and welcome any close cooperation between FMM Penang and the state government for the betterment of SMEs and SMIs in Penang.
“Let us all work together to recover and to strengthen Penang’s economy,” he said.
Among the issues highlighted during the one-hour courtesy visit were the renewal of the Penang industrial leasehold land, job matching and employment in the state, and TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training) industry.
Also present during the courtesy visit were InvestPenang chief executive officer Datuk Loo Lee Lian, FMM Penang vice-chairmen See Chee Tat and Datuk Hun Keng Kuan, and other delegation members.
