NEEDY families in Tanjong, encompassing Padang Kota, Pengkalan Kota and Komtar, will be receiving food aid from Friday onwards (June 9).
The Federal Government has allocated RM300,000 for all MPs to expand the food basket initiative under the National People’s Well-Being and Economic Recovery Package (Pemulih).
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the distribution would be done by his Tanjong service centre.
“My service centre has contacted the relevant department in the Prime Minister’s Office to obtain the distribution guidelines.
“We are finalising the process with a supplier and we hope to begin the distribution on Friday.
“We hope the food aid can help ease the burden of the needy,” he said during his visit to the City Stadium today.
Chow said the Penang government had earlier initiated a food aid programme for the needy in all the constituencies in Penang.
“We have some food left in stock. Those eligible can contact my service centre to register and receive the aid,” he said.
