THE Lions Club of Penang Outreach has initiated a food bank programme called the ‘Hunger Relieving Project 2021: Food For Life Foodbank’ to assist the needy.
At the launching by Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow today, 150 food baskets containing essential food and household items were distributed to those in need.
“I was informed that the programme today is the fifth food aid distribution programme under the initiative.
“The food bank programme was successfully held, thanks to the collaboration between the club and the various non-governmental organisations (NGOs), donors and supporters,” Chow said after launching the project at Penang Hawkers Association today.
Chow commended the club for its initiative to help those who are deeply impacted by the pandemic.
“The Penang government is thankful to the NGOs, individuals, and private sector for the contributions to the needy during this trying period,” he said.
The Hunger Relieving Project today is co-organised and supported by Teong Guan Association, KRT (Kawasan Rukun Tetangga) Jalan Burmah Tengah and Lebuh Chulia Village Community Management Council.
Also present were Lions Club Penang Outreach president Ooi Ean Beng, Burmah Road Middle Section Teong Guan Association chairman Ang Thean Hua, and KRT Jalan Burmah Tengah advisor Datuk Seri Tan Gin Soon, MPKK Lebuh Chulia chairperson Lily Wong.
