THE engagement between Penang and Kazakhstan is set to grow further with the opening of the Kazakhstan Honorary Consulate Office in the state.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said there would be more interaction between both sides in the fields of business, investment, and other areas of mutual interest.
“We look forward to more exposure for Penang in Kazakhstan and vice-versa.
“I am proud to say that Kazakhstan is 22nd on the list of Honorary Consulates in Penang. This is a strong nod towards Penang’s thriving position as home for a
cosmopolitan community, as well as the confidence shown by the diplomatic corps.
“I hope more countries will look towards setting up consulate representation in Penang in the future,” said Chow in his speech during the reception organised by Kazakhstan Honorary Consulate.
Chow also lauded the appointment of Datuk Ng Chun Hau as the Kazakhstan honorary consul in Penang.
Kazakhstan ambassador to Malaysia Bulat Sugurbayev hoped the ties between both sides can be strengthened.
Among those present were Chow’s wife Tan Lean Kee, state Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman Wong Hon Wai, Ng, and members of the consular corps in Penang.
