Datuk Sim Choo Kheng, the executive chairman of Sim Leisure Group, was at his alma mater to present the donation.

“We are proud to lead this transformation towards a digital era in education.

“The tablets distributed to our Standard One pupils signify our commitment to equipping them with the tools they need for the future. This initiative aims to help students keep up with the technological era,” Sim said during the tablets’ handover ceremony this morning.

He added that he would seek sponsors to provide tablets for the remaining 204 pupils.

The school currently has two digital classrooms and hopes to convert all classrooms to digital by the end of the year.

Sim also emphasised the importance of holistic education, mentioning plans to advocate for a swimming pool at the school.

“Swimming proficiency is vital, especially considering that a significant number of adults in Malaysia lack this skill. More than half of the population in Malaysia does not know how to swim,” he added.

If the swimming pool project materialises, SJKC Sin Kang will be the first Chinese primary school in Penang to have its own swimming pool.

Dr Fazzlijan Mohamed Adnan Khan, chief assistant director of the Technology and Communication Unit of the Learning Sector of the Penang State Education Department (JPN), praised the initiative.

“With the advancement of technology, the government has launched the Digital Education Policy (DPD) to ensure every student is digitally fluent. I hope this effort will continue among teachers and be effectively communicated to students,” she stated.

As part of its 118th anniversary celebration this year, SJKC Sin Kang will hold a Canteen Day on Aug 11 (Sunday) from 8.30am to 1.30pm.
