The SEMI x MSIA Members Networking Night provided a valuable platform for Malaysia and Singapore stakeholders to strengthen ties in the global semiconductor landscape, says Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.
“The collaboration between SEMI, a leading global industry association headquartered in Singapore, and MSIA, the voice of the Malaysian semiconductor industry, signifies the importance of cross-border partnerships in driving growth and resilience in this ever-evolving sector.

“As we engage in discussions and exchange ideas, I encourage all of you to explore new opportunities for collaboration. Whether it is in supply chain resilience, talent mobility, or co-innovation, the partnerships we cultivate today will define the future of our industry.
“Thus, may this platform be filled with insightful conversations, meaningful connections, and new partnerships that will drive our industry forward,” Chow said in his speech at the event, held at the Eastern & Oriental (E&O) Hotel this evening.
Among those present were Malaysia Semiconductor Industry Association (MSIA) president Datuk Seri Wong Siew Hai and Semiconductor Equipment & Materials International (SEMI) president for Southeast Asia Linda Tan.
Penang, a pioneer and backbone of Malaysia’s semiconductor industry, accounts for nearly five percent of global semiconductor exports, reinforcing its reputation as a preferred destination for high-tech investments.
With a legacy spanning over 50 years as the Silicon Valley of the East, Penang has consistently demonstrated its strength in high-value semiconductor manufacturing, integrated circuit (IC) design, automation, and advanced packaging.
“The semiconductor industry is the backbone of technological advancement, driving sectors from consumer electronics to automotive, healthcare, and artificial intelligence.
“Penang has long played a key role in Malaysia’s industrial and technological growth. Our success is not about outpacing others but about fostering an inclusive and collaborative economic ecosystem.
“Our priority is to ensure that investments translate into sustainable growth, high-value job creation, and technological innovation that benefit the entire nation,” he added.
The Chief Minister also emphasised the importance of balanced regional development, stating that Penang is committed to complementing, not competing with, other states in advancing Malaysia’s semiconductor and manufacturing excellence.
He added that Penang remains dedicated to fostering a conducive ecosystem for the semiconductor industry and is actively investing in infrastructure, talent development, and sustainable manufacturing practices to support the industry’s long-term growth.
He cited key initiatives such as the Penang Automation Cluster (PAC), the expansion of Batu Kawan Industrial Park, and collaborations with educational institutions as vital steps in ensuring that Penang stays ahead of industry needs.
