DC Electronics, a subsidiary company of Amphenol, has opened its new facility in Simpang Ampat, significantly expanding its footprint in the region.
The new building, located within 15km of the previous site, is reported to be four times larger, marking a major growth milestone for the custom cable assembly and wire harness manufacturer.
Operations at the former facility have now ceased as the company transitions fully to its new location.
Founded in 1979, ADCE specialises in the design, engineering, and manufacturing of custom wire harnesses, cable assemblies, and integrated electronic mechanical devices.
The company was acquired by Amphenol, one of the world’s largest providers of high-technology interconnect, sensor and antenna solutions, in 2013.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow officiated the opening ceremony, accompanied by Bukit Tambun assemblyman Goh Choon Aik.
In his speech, Chow commended ADCE for its business inclusivity, catering to various industries related to electrical and electronics (E&E), including medical, semiconductor, heavy equipment, and industrial.
“ADCE has its manufacturing operations in the United States, Mexico, and now, Penang, Malaysia.
“With an RM150 million investment since 2022, this plant marks a significant expansion in the company’s manufacturing capability, expanding to four times the size of its previous facility.”
Chow also highlighted Penang’s reputation as a leading hub for electronics and electrical (E&E) investments, stating: “Penang, frequently referred to as the ‘Silicon Valley of the East’, boasts over 50 years of industrial development, reinforcing its global appeal as a sustainable and attractive destination for business growth.”
Amphenol Malaysia director Datuk Seri Lee Teong Li said Amphenol first made its presence in Malaysia in 2005, and now has a total of 1,500 employees nationwide, including those in Johor Bahru.
Amphenol operates in 40 countries, employing 100,000 across its various branches.
Also present during the event was Malaysia Investment Development Authority (MIDA) Penang director Muhammad Ghaddaffi Sardar Mohamed.
