THE Penang government will be introducing the CAT Bridge bus service from Sept 1 onwards and commuters can enjoy the service for free during its four-month trial period!
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the CAT Bridge bus service would utilise 18 public buses during its trial period from Sept 1 to Dec 31 this year.
“Commuters can enjoy the public transport from 6am to 11pm daily. The CAT Bridge buses will stop at several pick-up points such as The Blanket Hotel in Seberang Jaya, Megamall Penang, Queensbay Mall, Bukit Jambul bus hub and Bayan Baru bus hub. The CAT Bridge buses will be using the Penang Bridge.
“The CAT Bridge buses will also be operating at the Free Industrial Zone (FIZ). The buses will be operating at the FIZ only during peak hours, between 6am and 8.15am and between 4.50pm and 7pm.
“The buses will operate at FIZ A and B (which include FIZ 1, 2 and 3); and FIZ C (which includes FIZ 4 and the Bayan Lepas Industrial Park). A total of four trips will be made to FIZ A and B, while four trips will be made to FIZ C,” Chow told a press conference in Komtar today.
Chow said that the BEST FIZ bus service would be terminated following the introduction of the CAT Bridge bus service.
“We hope to increase the usage of public transport with the CAT Bridge bus service,” he added.
