THE public can now enjoy free WiFi when they visit Penang Hill – thanks to the smart partnership between Penang Hill Corporation (PHC) and Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM).
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, who is also the PHC chairman, said the service was fully set up by TM; which included the daily operations, as well as the installation of fibre optic cables and routers.
“PHC is delighted to collaborate with TM on this project to enhance internet connectivity at the main areas of Penang Hill. It will make it easier for visitors to get connected while enjoying their time at the hill.
“This collaboration echoes the corporation’s commitment to continuously enhance the infrastructure and facilities at Penang Hill.
“With wifi@unifi in place, visitors can enjoy free WiFi connectivity at the Lower Station, Upper Station, Cliff Café and the Dataran areas.
“This initiative is in line with the state’s vision Penang2030,” Chow told a press conference in Komtar today.
TM Penang general manager Kelvin Lee said the public could enjoy high speed internet while taking in the amazing view at the hill.
“It takes us two years make this collaboration happen. We are honoured to participate in this project.
“There are 22 access points on Penang Hill – nine at the top of the hill while 13 below,” he said.
Lee also encouraged the public to download the ‘i-foundit!’ mobile app to enjoy the free WiFi service.
“The app can be downloaded via the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
“The app locates WiFi hotspots and connects users to close to 14,000 wifi@unifi hotspots nationwide, which include shopping malls, airports and eatery outlets. The service is available for free until further notice,” Lee added.
Also present was PHC general manager Cheok Lay Leng.
