THE Penang government, through the Kepala Batas parliamentary special coordinating office, has distributed a total of 3.8 tonnes or 3,800kg of fresh vegetables to more than 2,000 residents in the constituency as well as Tasek Gelugor today.
Lay Hock Peng, who is the special coordinating officer to Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, said the fresh produce distribution focused on 13 areas in Tasek Gelugor and nine areas in Kepala Batas.
“The programme is aimed to help the residents in those areas who are badly affected by the Covid-19 situation, especially those from underprivileged families.
“Hopefully, the fresh vegetables given today such as cabbage, green mustard, spinach, cucumber and many others can at least ease their burden to provide food for their families during these trying times,” Lay told a press conference at the Kepala Batas parliamentary special coordinating office today.
According to Lay, apart from vegetables, his office also has distributed a total of 12,000 face masks and biscuits to the residents in both constituencies today.
“We have also planned to distribute 200 food baskets to the senior citizens and underprivileged for the upcoming Hari Raya Aidiladha that falls on July 20 (Tuesday),” he added.
