THE Chinese Consulate-General in Penang celebrated the 71st anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China via online in view of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The online reception was successfully held at Kwong Wah Yit Poh headquarters in Lebuh Presgrave today.
Chinese consul-general to Penang Lu Shiwei said the friendship between China and Malaysia continues to grow through mutual support in fighting against the Covid-19.
“Facing the common challenges of the Covid-19, the governments and the people of China and Malaysia have provided sincere support for each other.
“We look forward to the everlasting friendship between China and Malaysia,” he said in his speech.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said China has been a major investor in economic development.
“Malaysia and China have always maintained close and friendly relations, especially in the fields of economic trade, culture, education and tourism.
“As far as Penang is concerned, the state will continue to work closely with the people to improve the quality of life for Penangites as outlined in the Penang2030 vision of ‘A Family-focused Green and Smart State that Inspires the Nation’.
“We congratulate the People’s Republic of China for its notable achievements in the past 71 years.
“The Penang government is willing to work closely with you (China) for the promotion and continuous development of Malaysia-China relations; which will benefit the people of both countries.
“May the bilateral relations between Malaysia and China achieve greater heights,” Chow said.
Later after the ceremony, Chow told reporters that the online reception was conducted smoothly.
“We have to adapt to the new normal in view of the Covid-19 pandemic,” he said.
