MISSED the Penang International Food Festival (PIFF) 2024, better known as PIFF @ Tanjung at Beach Street last weekend? Worry not! Food lovers are in for a treat, as the festival continues with a second event this weekend!
This year’s PIFF spans two weekends, offering unique food experiences in different parts of Penang.
Following the success of PIFF @ Tanjung in George Town, the festival’s next stop is PIFF @ Batu Kawan, taking place at the Design Village Outlet Mall on Nov 9 and 10 from 5pm to 11pm.
It is endorsed by the state Tourism and Creative Economy (Petace) office through the Penang Global Tourism (PGT) and supported by Design Village (PE Land) and organised by TLM Event in collaboration with the Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP).
The first event, PIFF @ Tanjung, was successfully held at Beach Street near RHB Bank in George Town, running from Nov 2 to 3. This segment is supported by Deputy Finance Minister and Tanjung MP YB Lim Hui Ying’s office, and is organised by Dreamz.
PIFF @ Batu Kawan is set to feature over 100 of Penang’s finest food and beverage outlets, including trendy cafes, acclaimed restaurants, and popular street food stalls.
The festival promises a lively atmosphere, enhanced by carefully curated thematic zones. Visitors can relax at the ‘Pop-up Cafe Corner’ with a cup of artisanal coffee and pastries or dive into the ‘Barbecue Corner’ for a taste of smoky, grilled delicacies.
In addition to delectable treats, the festival ambience will be vibrant with eye-catching decorations, inviting visitors to capture memorable photos.
Live music performances and an exhilarating fire show are lined up to amplify the festive spirit.
PE Land Penang Sdn Bhd chief operating officer Andy Song expressed his excitement about hosting PIFF @ Batu Kawan at Design Village this weekend.
“This year, we have integrated PIFF directly into the mall, creating a convenient experience for visitors to enjoy Penang’s lively food scene while exploring our wide range of retail options.
“Among the 81 stalls and five food trucks, highlights include Bib Gourmand Michelin-recognized BM Charcoal Duck Egg Char Koay Teow and Penang Road Famous Laksa, catering to diverse tastes and offering a truly distinctive culinary journey,” he shared.
Song also mentioned exclusive deals and promotions in collaboration with Design Village tenants.
“Shoppers can enjoy up to 80% off at luxury brand Kate Spade and special offers from popular stores like Adidas, Puma, New Balance, and Under Armour.
“Family-friendly activities such as live performances, interactive workshops, and a grand fireworks show at 8.30pm on Nov 9 will make this event even more special,” Song added.
At the press conference, Penang Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman Wong Hon Wai, who will be officiating the event, highlighted the significance of PIFF in promoting Penang’s renowned food culture.
“This weekend, Penang’s culinary treasures will once again shine as we bring the festival to Seberang Perai.
“As part of Penang’s 2030 vision and the ‘Jom! Experience Penang’s tourism campaign, PIFF @ Batu Kawan embodies the vibrant food culture of Penang and invites everyone to immerse themselves in the flavours that define our community,” he said.
Hon Wai emphasised the historical and cultural depth of Penang’s food, often hailed as a ‘food paradise’.
“From spicy laksa to the delicate Nyonya kuih, both Penang Island and Seberang Perai offer equally rich culinary experiences.
“This festival is a perfect platform to celebrate our local flavours and bring people together,” he said.
With an impressive lineup of over 100 stalls and various attractions, PIFF @ Batu Kawan is shaping up to be an unmissable event for food enthusiasts, offering something for every palate!
