TO commemorate International Women’s Day (IWD), which will be celebrated next month, the Junior Chamber International Pearl (JCI Pearl) is partnering with Gleneagles Hospital Penang to organise a fun run on March 9.

The 3-km fun run called ‘2024 Run With Flying Colours – Pass It On’ will be held at the Automall, Karpal Singh Drive.

State Social Development, Welfare, and Non-Islamic Religious Affairs Committee chairman Lim Siew Khim said that some 1,000 participants are expected to join the run.

“The state government has been supporting the run since it was launched in 2014, via Penang Women’s Development Corporation (PWDC), Penang Youth Development Corporation (PYDC), Penang Amateur Athletic Association (PAAA), and the Penang State Sports Council (MSNPP).

“We continue to support programmes that strive towards the Penang2030 vision of a Family Focused, Green, Smart State that Inspires the Nation.

“The state government, through the Social Development MMK, will be contributing RM5,000 for the event as an encouragement to JCI Pearl and their co-partners,” Lim said during a press conference on Feb 22.

The International Women’s Day is observed on March 8 every year.

Meanwhile, Lim also said that the run is for all, uniting women, and men from all walks of life to spread positivity, encouragement, and inspire each other’s lives.

“The theme for 2024 IWD is ‘Inspire Inclusion’ which resonates with the global pursuit towards gender equality and diversity.

“It encourages everyone to support gender equality and diversity by embracing differences, promoting inclusivity, and amplifying women’s voices,” she added.

PWDC chief executive officer Datuk Ong Bee Leng commended JCI Pearl for their continuous effort in organising the run for the past years.

“This will be a great opportunity for family and friends to come together and spend quality time while showing support for the IWD celebration.

“Various other activities will also be held by other strategic partners through March,” Ong added.

Gleneagles assistant marketing manager Hazel Tan said that the run will also feature health screenings, education on breast self-examination techniques, and a forum on women’s health as well as other essential topics.

It is learned that the Gleneagles is joining hands with JCI Pearl to hold the event for the first time.

“It is indeed our privilege to support initiatives that promote health awareness and foster healthy lifestyles.

“I urge all the participants not to miss this valuable opportunity to engage with our breast, endocrine, and bariatric surgeon Dr M. Kirubakaran.

“His expertise will provide an insight into various health matters,” Tan said.
