THE Women’s Centre for Change (WCC) Penang and the Pulau Tikus Women and Family Development Committee (JPWK) will jointly hold a jumble sale as a fundraising effort to support WCC’s programmes for women and children in society.

It will take place on March 18 and 19 at Island Plaza (level 3) in Tanjung Tokong from 10am to 6pm.

Pulau Tikus assemblyman Chris Lee commended WCC for its role and support for women, children and vulnerable groups alike in society.

“Their capacity does not limit to women only, but for children and vulnerable groups as well.

“They have been a key advocate for the past three decades in educating children, supporting women and spearheading initiatives for a better tomorrow for all.

“As society is getting more and more advanced through multiple avenues today, we really cannot predict the potential benefits and dangers we could be up with.

“While engaging in online activities more often than so, we need to realise that there are dangers out there.

“Every single day, we are witnessing much unpleasant news, such as love scams, cybercrime, cyber bullies and others.

“This is where WCC comes into the picture. This is something they have been fighting and providing support for.

“So, come forward on March 18 and 19 to support this fundraising effort, which at the end of the day, the funds collected will only be used to assist WCC in their future programmes,” Chris told the reporters during a brief press conference at Island Plaza on Feb 28.

It was learnt that WCC hopes to raise RM10,000 during the two-day affair.

Meanwhile, WCC Penang executive director Loh Cheng Kooi said the jumble sale concept will be an environment-friendly approach as most of the items for sale will be made of recycled goods.

“The public can purchase three pieces of men, women and children’s clothing for as low as RM10.

“We will also have accessories starting as low as RM1.

“This is a great opportunity for the public to come and participate and support our cause, while being a part of the state’s vision of going green.

“WCC also wishes to thank YB Chris Lee as he has always been a strong supporter of WCC and our initiatives.

“We have been in existence for the past 38 years and we will continue with our efforts to ensure the protection of women and children,” said Loh.
