AS the campaign for the 15th General Election enters its second half, Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said Pakatan Harapan must work hard with six days left before polling day on Nov 19 to march successfully to Putrajaya.
Chow, who is also the Penang Pakatan Harapan chairman, said according to political analysts and opinion polls, Pakatan Harapan is slightly ahead of other coalitions at this stage.
Speaking at a ceramah at the Penang Chinese Town Hall last night, Chow said he would like to see increasing support for Pakatan Harapan in the next six days since the coalition has been receiving very encouraging support from the start.
Chow, who is contesting the Batu Kawan parliamentary seat, was given a thunderous applause when he was invited to the stage to speak.
“Pakatan Harapan has been receiving very encouraging responses from the people. Now with six days left, we want to see Pakatan Harapan get even more support. This is important as we get closer to achieving our objective.
“We want the people to know that Pakatan Harapan deserves their support to form the next Federal Government.
“If we win at least 112 seats, and the other side gets 110, it is still not enough. Only a two-seat difference and we won’t have a stable and strong government.
“We need to win more, but we must work hard to achieve it.
“Based on what political analysts, surveys or opinion pools say until now, many believe PH is slightly ahead of other coalitions.
“There are analysts who feel we (PH) can win 90 seats in Peninsular Malaysia.
“But even 90 seats are not enough. We still have to rely on our friends from Sabah and Sarawak for other seats.
“But why do we have to limit ourselves to 90 or 95 seats? If we can win 110 or 112 in Peninsular Malaysia, then we can start a new Federal Government in Malaysia with the additional seats won in Sabah and Sarawak.”
Chow also urged the people to come out on Nov 19 to cast their votes for a better Malaysia, telling them not to give up hope.
Pakatan Harapan’s battle cry of “Kita Boleh” constantly reverberated around the auditorium of Penang Chinese Town Hall where several of the state DAP leaders and assemblymen took to the stage to fire a salvo of criticisms against the other coalitions.
State DAP Wanita chief Lim Siew Khim set an optimistic tone for the whole ceramah by belting a Malay song, titled Terima Kasih, and a Hokkien song, Se Kai Te Yit Ting.
Among others who spoke at the ceramah were assemblymen Joseph Ng (Air Itam), Ong Ah Teong (Batu Lancang), Daniel Gooi (Pengkalan Kota), Bukit Bendera parliamentary candidate Syerleena Abdul Rashid, Tanjung parliamentary candidate Lim Hui Ying, Jelutong parliamentary candidate R.S.N. Rayer, Bukit Gelugor parliamentary candidate Ramkarpal Singh and Bagan parliamentary candidate Lim Guan Eng.
Like Siew Khim, Rayer raised the tempo by leading the congregation with two songs – a Malay song titled Kita Lawan and a Hokkien song, titled Ai Pia Cia E Ya.
Later in his speech, he cautioned PH supporters and members to continue to work hard and not be overconfident.
“Although our support is increasing, we cannot be overconfident. We must all work very hard in the next six days.
“It is important to realise this election is not about winning just our seats, but for the future of Malaysia,” Rayer said.
