THE Penang government is aiming to revitalise the Relau Agricultural Station through a master plan competition.
State Health, Rural Development, Agrotech and Food Security Committee chairman Dr Norlela Ariffin said the competition was organised to find ideas and solutions to revitalise the agricultural station.
“We aspire to create a ‘symbolic’ landscape space, identifiable, and able to contribute to innovation and technology-oriented agricultural activities.
“The Relau Agricultural Station is a place where farmers and local agricultural entrepreneurs can obtain hands-on training using various agricultural technologies.
“The competition is open to all (local and international) – individual, group, company, non-governmental organisation, or association,” she told a media conference after the opening of the State Legislative Assembly today.
Penang Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman Yeoh Soon Hin welcomed the effort by Dr Norlela.
“Such initiatives are important to diversify the state’s assets and tourism products, especially from the aspects of eco-tourism.
“This competition is in line with the state’s Tourism Master Plan,” he said.
The first prize winner will bring home a cash prize of RM30,000, a trophy and a certificate, while the second prize winner will win a cash prize of RM15,000, a trophy and a certificate.
A cash prize of RM7,000, a trophy and a certificate will be given to the third prize winner. Five consolation prize winners will bag RM2,000 and a certificate each.
