THE One Hope Charity & Welfare organisation has generously donated medical equipment and furniture worth RM139,575 to support the newly established optometry clinic at Bukit Mertajam Hospital.
A simple presentation ceremony, held yesterday (Jan 20), was attended by Human Resources Minister Steven Sim Chee Keong, who is also the Bukit Mertajam MP.
One Hope Charity & Welfare was represented by its chairman Datuk Chua Sui Hau and Bukit Mertajam Hospital was represented by its director Dr Goh Hin Kwang.
Chua said their contribution aimed to boost the clinic’s capabilities in treating patients with eyesight issues.
“The donated medical equipment includes advanced tools like LED Slit Lamp and Keeler Vantage 1205-P-1020 Digital Wireless BIO System.
“With this type of equipment, the optometrist can diagnose eye conditions more accurately to detect any defects in vision, signs of injury, ocular diseases or abnormality.
“Apart from that, we also contribute furniture such as iron cupboards, office desks, cabinets and waiting chairs to increase the efficiency of the new clinic.
“This is not our first time assisting the Bukit Mertajam Hospital. We have been helping the hospital many times previously, donating items such as patient monitors, syringe pumps, infusion pumps, patient beds, and computers.
“We will continue to support the hospital’s operations,” he said.
Dr Goh expressed his utmost gratitude and appreciation to the One Hope Charity & Welfare for its contribution to the new optometry clinic and continuous support for Bukit Mertajam Hospital.
He added that such a contribution would benefit patients in the Bukit Mertajam vicinity and beyond.
Sim also commended One Hope Charity & Welfare for its valuable contribution and urged other charitable organisations to emulate such initiative to benefit the community.
Sim also added that his parliamentary service centre would now focus on how to solve the parking issue at the Bukit Mertajam Hospital.
“This problem has been around for quite some time since there is limited parking space for everyone, including patients and medical staff themselves.
“Rest assured, we will do our best to find the best solution to it,” he said.
