“We are calling for proposals for performances, installations, workshops, and exhibitions that align with the festival’s theme, ‘Connection’.

“We hope to inspire and foster meaningful relationships through these creative contributions,” he said during a media conference at his office in Komtar today.

The submission deadline is Feb 10, this year. Interested participants can submit their proposals through the official website, www.georgetownfestival.com, where guidelines and application forms are available.

Announcing the 16th edition of GTF, Hon Wai revealed that the festival will run from Aug 2 to 10, 2025.

“This year’s festival will explore the dynamic relationship between the arts and human experience. It will feature a diverse array of programmes, with 70% of them free to attend, alongside some ticketed events,” he added.

The festival will be hosted at unique venues across Penang island and Seberang Perai, encouraging visitors to discover the state’s artistic and cultural offerings in fresh and exciting locations.

Hon Wai also highlighted the wide range of art forms to be featured, including theatre, music, dance, film, photography, visual arts, and more.

He added that GTF 2025 would kick off with the ‘When Night Falls’ programme, which will showcase projection mapping, a digital art gallery, immersive art installations, and captivating performances at Armenian Park.

“In addition, the festival will feature pre-festival pop-up performances, community engagement initiatives, ticketed shows, exhibitions, art installations, thought-provoking talks, sharing sessions, and much more,” he said.

Also present at the media conference were Pengkalan Kota assemblyman Wong Yuee Harng, who is also a member of the George Town World Heritage Incorporated (GTWHI) Board of Directors; GTF director Jack Wong; GTWHI administrative and finance department manager Amy Goh; and GTWHI communications and collaborations department manager Vick Quah.
