“As part of the celebration, Ghee Hiang has introduced a limited-edition Tau Sar Pneah box featuring the anniversary logo, and a limited-edition assorted pastries box featuring Ghee Hiang’s legendary baby character holding a tiger and a panda symbolising the friendship between Malaysia and China.

“This launch offers Chinese travellers the opportunity to savour a variety of pastries that represent Penang’s rich culinary heritage.

“In addition, Ghee Hiang will offer a complimentary gift to all travellers from China who present their air tickets or boarding passes at any Ghee Hiang outlet, as a gesture of appreciation for the enduring relationship between the two countries and their shared cultural heritage,” Ch’ng said during the product launch at Ghee Hiang outlet in Macalister Road today.

Also present were the Penang Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman Wong Hon Wai, Chinese vice consul-general in Penang Madam Ding Qiao and Thai Consul-General in Penang Datuk Raschada Jiwalai.

Meanwhile, Wong mentioned that Ghee Hiang is a perfect example of the long-standing connection between Penang and China, being Penang’s oldest surviving heritage brand.

“Founded as a humble biscuit shop in Fujian, China, Ghee Hiang was established in Penang over 168 years ago.

“Today, it stands as a symbol of our shared heritage and the enduring friendship between our two nations.

“Ghee Hiang’s products, from the iconic Tau Sar Pneah to their high-grade sesame oil, are cherished both locally and internationally.

“As we move forward, let us continue to build on this strong foundation of friendship. Together, we can create a bright future for Penang and further strengthen our relationship with China for many years to come,” said Wong.

The limited-edition Tau Sar Pneah and assorted pastries boxes are now available at all Ghee Hiang boutique outlets on Macalister Road, Burmah Road, Beach Street and at Sunshine Farlim.
