SIX hundred and ninety four pupils from the B40 category received ‘back-to-school’ sets for the new school year – thanks to Sunway Group.

The pupils were from seven schools in the Seberang Jaya constituency.

The seven schools were SK Permatang To’Kandu, SK Seberang Jaya, SK Seberang Jaya 2, SK Jalan Baru, SK Pauh Jaya, SJKC Seng Keow and SK Bandar Baru Perda.

Sunway Properties general manager Ahila Ganeson said the programme aimed at benefiting some 4,000 needy students from 103 schools across four states this year.

“We are committed to help the community, especially in providing quality education.

“Our founder and chairman Tan Sri Dr Jeffrey Cheah believes in providing quality education and equal opportunity for everyone.

“He initiated the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation which offers many scholarships to students whose family could not afford to provide them tertiary education,” she said on Dec 22.

Penang Agriculture, Agro-based Industry, Rural Development and Health Committee chairman Dr Afif Bahardin commended Sunway Group for their kind initiatives.

“We are grateful to corporations like Sunway that are also working with the state government towards making Penang a family-focused, green and smart state with their network, talent and resources,” he said.

The pupils received school uniforms, school bags, stationery, lunch boxes and water bottles during the ceremony at PECC Exhibition and Convention Sunway in Sunway Carnival Mall.
