A Malaysian construction company was imposed a delay penalty amounting to RM1,609,157.55 (65 days) for failure to deliver Phase One of the Gurney Bay project according to the given timeline.
State Local Government, Town and Country Planning Committee chairman Jason H’ng Mooi Lye told the State Legislative Assembly Sitting today that the initial deadline set for the contractor to complete Phase One, also known as Priority 1, was March 30, 2023.
H’ng (PH – Jawi) told the House that a total of three extensions of time (EOT) were issued in 2023, from March 30 to May 29 (EOT 1), from May 29 to July 4 (EOT 2) and from July 4 to Nov 30 (EOT 3).
Phase One was completed and opened to the public on Feb 4 this year.
“A total of RM24,756.22 was fined daily for the delay,” H’ng said in response to an oral question by Joshua Woo Sze Zeng (PH – Pulau Tikus) at the State Assembly Building in Light Street this morning.
The Gurney Bay project, valued at RM247.8 million, is divided into two phases: Priority 1 and Priority 2.
Priority 1, covering 27.70 acres, includes various components such as a children’s play area, skate park, south vantage point viewing deck, public toilets, pedestrian promenade, hawker stalls, retail areas, recreation park, hawker kiosks, open car park space, and south water body reclamation area.
Priority 2 (74.10 acres) encompasses a hawker centre, retail area, convenience stores, north viewing deck, public toilets, additional hawker kiosks, a multi-storey car park, an open car park, a water garden, surau, water taxis jetty, a man-made beach, and boardwalk, refuse centre, north water body, and more.
H’ng said construction works of Phase Two are expected to be completed in 2025.
