A HEALTH carnival will take place at Sunshine Central in Air Itam on Oct 13, two days after the official opening of the township’s first shopping mall.
Known as the Pink October Health Carnival, the event is organised by Amazing Nutri Consultancy, JCI Bayan, in collaboration with the Penang Excellence Women Entrepreneurs Association (PEWA), and the Malaysia Entrepreneurs’ Development Corporation (PUMM) Penang.
State Social Development, Welfare and Non-Religious Committee chairman Lim Siew Khim said the health carnival aims to raise awareness about breast cancer and the importance of early detection.
“We prioritise women’s health, especially in the fight against breast cancer. Women are the backbone of families, and their health impacts the entire community.
“Hence, early detection and a strong support system are vital in this battle. The state government is committed to raising awareness and ensuring that every woman can access the care she needs,” she said at a media conference in Komtar today.
Lim commended the organising team for their unwavering efforts in organising the event.
“The carnival will feature free HPV vaccinations, blood and hair donations, a health expo, health talks and a cancer survivor forum. These efforts emphasise the importance of health and offer strength to those battling cancer.
“We aim to raise awareness, especially on women’s health, and to create a supportive environment for them as well,” she said.
Organising chairperson Connie Liew announced that 171 individuals have already registered for the HPV jabs.
“Registration is open until Oct 10, and we will offer an additional 50 slots for walk-ins,” she said.
Also present was JCI Bayan Local president Keift Teoh.
