STORIES of selfless sacrifices made by mothers and wives, our contributions to society through our careers, courageous battles fought by women and many more that are compiled in the book- ‘Ordinary Women, Extraordinary Lives. Everyday Stories of Inspiration Women.’ (OWEL), are testaments of remarkable perseverance that we hope, will be able to inspire and give strength to every reader.
Chong Eng said this at a media conference on Nov 8 at Komtar to announce the launch of OWEL on coming Nov 17.
“We aim for libraries and 2,450 secondary schools in the country to have at least a copy of the book.
” To achieve this, we truly welcome any sponsorship that will further help the committee attain their goals,” added Chong Eng who is exco for Women & Family Development, Gender Inclusiveness and Religions other than Islam
Joining Chong Eng at the function were writer Chan Lean Heng, Molly Lee, and Dance For A Cause’s Marinaa
Chua.
Also present were programme manager of Think City, Karthigayan Gunasegaran.
Meanwhile, Chan said the initial objective of this book project is to enable ordinary people to write while they reflect on and discern the values and practices of the woman who has shaped their lives.
“During the launch function, writers will share their writings as well as readers’ responses through reviews, poems, songs and performance.
“Dance For A Cause will be specially gifting OWEL with a dance along with the song, ‘Mom’ and ‘Ain’t No Mountain High Enough’ dedicating to mothers to show gratitude,” she commented.
Admission to the launch is free and will be held on Nov 17, Saturday at 10.30 – 1pm. Venue: UAB Building, China St Ghaut, Penang.
