HAN Chiang High School (HCHS) becomes the first school in Penang to have a Digital Library and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) Lab.
It is said that ‘In life, as in chess, forethought wins’. The school prepares the students for the future and the challenges it might offer.
HCHS Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) chairman Ngoo Seong Boon said the school equipped its students with fundamental skills to prepare them for Industry 4.0.
“We strongly support the establishment of the STEAM Lab which provide students and teachers a place to experience and develop the STEAM concept, besides getting hands-on experience.
“Furthermore, the school will also incorporate STEAM learning in the Form 4 and Form 5 syllabus.
“We hope that HCHS will inspire other schools and become the role model for STEAM education in Malaysia,” Ngoo said.
The PTA played a pivotal role in coming up with the Digital Library and STEAM Lab.
It is a collaborative effort between HCHS board of directors, state government, Penang Science Cluster, Penang STEM 4.0, Penang Digital Library, and parents-industry experts such as Intel engineers and colleges.
“Our students here can access the e-books that are available at the Penang Digital Library (PDL).
“We hope that the state government will continue to support us and will add in more e-books at PDL,” Ngoo added.
State Local Government, Housing and Town & Country Planning Committee chairman Jagdeep Singh Deo who was present at the launching ceremony said that HCHS’s vision is similar to the state’s vision in emphasising STEAM education to be able to embrace the Industrial 4.0 revolution.
“I am very happy that HCHS is preparing the students particularly in STEAM. This is important to meet the market demands,” Jagdeep said.
Also present was Deputy Chief Minister II Prof Dr P. Ramasamy who commended the school’s initiative on gearing towards STEAM-based education.
