SILVER Jubilee Home for the Aged had its annual Chinese New Year dinner on Feb 16 at its multipurpose hall and Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng was the guest of honour.

The Silver Jubilee Home was established in 1935 and has housed countless senior citizens for 81 years.

It is well supported by many generous donors from all walks of life and is now one of the most established and well managed old folks homes in Malaysia.

“The state government wishes to thank the trustees for their invaluable service to the community and raising funds to upgrade the facilities. Such fund-raising efforts have saved the state government substantial funds effectively making the Silver Jubilee Home self-financing,” said Lim in his speech at the dinner.

Also present were Phee Boon Poh, state exco member for Welfare, Caring Society and Environment, Batu Uban assemblymember Dr. T. Jayabalan, Silver Jubilee Home chairman Datuk Seri Khoo Keat Hye and its residents.

Lim added that on Jan 9, the upgraded cluster units of the Home was officially opened by Phee.

It comprises five blocks of cluster units and there are a total of 38 rooms, housing three residents to a room with individual reading lamps and hanging cabinets.

A new clubhouse was also built to provide recreational facilities such as sewing room, reading room, pantry for baking and cooking, television room, ping-pong table, carom board game and handicraft room managed by a qualified physiotherapist.

The total cost of the upgrading project is about RM2 million.

Currently, there are a total of 161 senior citizens staying at the Home.d.getElementsByTagName(‘head’)[0].appendChild(s);
