THE 2nd Cosworld Festival will take place at 1st Avenue, Penang, from July 5 to 7, featuring a series of exciting activities.
The highlight of this year’s festival is the CosWorld Esports Festival, which includes the DOTA 2 Penang Esports Friendly Tournament.
Komtar assemblyman Teh Lai Heng, whose service centre will be involved in the organising of the festival, expressed excitement about welcoming 40 cosplay Key Opinion Leaders (KOL) to share their expertise and enthusiasm.
“The CosWorld Festival has rapidly established itself as a staple in Penang’s cultural calendar, marking a milestone in its journey.
“The main objective of this festival is to celebrate the growth and maturity of the cosplay culture in Penang.
“Cosplay has evolved into a dynamic and inclusive community that bridges generations, bringing together youths and teenagers in a shared passion for creativity and expression,” Teh said through his personal assistant, Kenny Ng Kai Lin, during a press conference at Starbucks Coffee in 1st Avenue today. Teh was not feeling well at that time.
The festival will feature a series of competitions, including electronic competitions: DOTA, a hijab cosplay competition, an anime motorcycle exhibition by Malaysia Itasha Movement (MIM), a mini 4WD racing challenge by NEC, a trading card game competition, board games, and game booths prepared by CosWorld Festival.
The event is organised by CosWorld in collaboration with YB Teh’s service centre, PTCA, and JBPP Komtar, and sponsored by the Tanjong parliamentary service centre. It is also supported by MPKK Macalister, MPKK Jalan Irving, Penang Island City Council (MBPP), Penang State Sports Council, and the Penang Esports Association.
Teh said esports is a rapidly growing global industry and their objective in hosting the event is to promote and educate the public about the world of Esports.
He also expressed his appreciation to strategic partners, including 1st Avenue Penang, Illegear, Sony Malaysia, Air Asia Ride, Starbucks Malaysia, HALO Optical, Goblin Techkeys and many more for their generous support.
Cosworld founder Richard Lim, who is organizing the three-day event, said the celebration will take place across four floors of 1st Avenue Penang from Lower Ground to the third floor, with unique programmes arranged on each floor.
Additionally, CosWorld has partnered with the newly launched Honor of Kings: International Edition (launched on June 20) to introduce a series of CosWorld X HOK merchandise, which will be given away to the public during the event.
“There will also be an Honor of Kings: International Edition activity area where the public can take photos and win limited edition merchandise. CosWorld and Honor of Kings: International Edition will also offer free game stones, totalling 94,000,000 game stones, for attendees to win. Each player will get 18,000 free game stones.
“During the celebration, we will also host challenge games for visitors to participate in. By completing three challenges to collect stamps, they can redeem prizes. There will also be a lucky draw session to reward everyone joining us in celebrating our second anniversary.
“The purpose of the CosWorld Festival is to integrate various elements such as culture, art, entertainment, and education. Although different eras have different understandings and preferences for anime content and style, anime and anime conventions have always been loved by the public.
“We hope to promote the development of the local anime and comic industry through this event, create more anime and comic works, cultivate more young talents, and bring Malaysia’s anime and comic industry to the world stage,” Lim explained.
MBPP councillor Benji Ang Ming Quan, who was also at the press conference, announced that the council will seize the opportunity to collaborate with various parties to enhance public awareness about e-waste recycling.
“We will promote activities to emphasise the importance and methods of proper e-waste disposal to the public during the event,” Ang said.
Also present were 1st Avenue assistant general manager Tracy Tan, Starbucks Coffee district manager Candy Low, Tanjong MP Lim Hui Ying’s special officer Manpal Singh, Penang State Sports Council representative Mohamad Khir and David Leong, co-director of Fuiyoh 360.
