THE Penang Adventist Hospital (PAH) hosted a Chinese New Year celebration and gathering for the Rainbow Touch Cancer Support Group in conjunction with World Cancer Day today.
What made the entire celebration a special one was that it was held on one of the four Penang ferries purchased by the Penang Port Sdn Bhd (PPSB).
PAH chief executive officer Albin Phua described this morning’s event as a celebration of resilience and hope, emphasising a commitment to remembering and cherishing the lives of those diagnosed with cancer.
“As we gather here today, we stand at the forefront of healthcare, not only in our commitment to medical excellence but also in our dedication to compassionate care.
“We also pay tribute to the Rainbow Touch Cancer Support Group – a beacon of hope for those navigating the complexities of cancer diagnosis and treatment.
“Your support, resilience and companionship embody the very essence of community, offering comfort and strength to all those in need,” Phua said during his speech.
World Cancer Day serves as a reminder of the millions of lives affected by this harmful illness and the unyielding courage demonstrated by those battling this relentless disease.
It is a day that unites everyone resolve together to combat cancer through awareness, prevention, and support.
State Youth, Sports and Health Committee chairman Daniel Gooi Zi Sen echoed Phua’s sentiments, emphasising the importance of unity and solidarity in the fight against cancer.
“I firmly believe that everyone in this country plays a vital role in fighting against cancer.
“The simplest initiative everyone can undertake is to raise awareness of cancer and provide support to the survivors,” he said.
Among others present during the event were Penang Centre of Medical Tourism executive director Dr Mary Ann Harris, PAH group president Ronald Koh, PAH head of Adventist Oncology Centre Dr Ang Soo Fan and PAH marketing director Caleb Lim.
