PENANG Adventist Hospital’s (PAH) next event in celebration of its 100th anniversary is a fun run called ‘Shine in Gold Charity Centennial Run’.
Scheduled to take place on July 28 this year at the Penang Municipal Park, the hospital is anticipating 200 participants and hopes to raise RM200,000 through this fundraiser.
The 4km run will happen at the park at 7.30am.
Participants will follow a scenic route through Jalan Kebun Bunga, Burma Road, then pass by PAH and Brown Road before returning to the park.
The fund raised will then be channelled to the hospital’s Dr. J. Earl Gardner Fund, which assists needy patients suffering from chronic illnesses that require major surgeries such as scoliosis, limb amputation, cleft palate lips and others.
State Youth, Sports and Health Committee chairman Daniel Gooi Zi Sen was at the hospital on June 11 to attend a media conference to announce this fundraiser officially.
In his speech, he said, “The run is not just a run; it is a beacon of hope and a testament to what we can achieve when we join hands for a common cause.
“This event marks one hundred years of tireless service, and it is my privilege to be part of this milestone that reflects both endurance and altruism.
“Our community thrives on unity, and today, I call upon everyone to join this noble cause. Whether you run, walk, volunteer, or donate, your participation matters.
“Every step taken, every effort made, and every donation given goes a long way in supporting the needy among us.
“Remember, this event is more than just a celebration; it is a lifeline for many, providing essential support to those who need it most.
“Let July 28 be a day we remember not just for the run, but for the lives we touch and the hearts we warm.
“Your participation and support, no matter how big or small, contribute to a legacy of kindness and solidarity,” he said.
Meanwhile, hospital chief executive officer Albin Phua has called the people of Penang and those from afar and near, to show support for this fund dedicated to saving the lives of those suffering from serious illnesses.
“As we lace up our shoes and prepare to hit the pavement, let us do so with hearts full of compassion and minds filled with hope.
“Together, let’s show the world the power of kindness and empathy,” Phua said in his speech.
The registration fee is RM60. Individuals can register in a group of four and above to get a discounted rate of RM50 per person.
