CHARITY can be done through many ways and the ‘Rock to Rock Run’ organised by the Hard Rock Hotel proved that sports can also be used as a means to help the community.
“The run has successfully raised RM70,000 for the ‘Ambulance for Life’ project. The sum is to help purchase a new ambulance which will be stationed permanently in Batu Ferringhi and managed by the Civil Defence Department,” said state Youth and Sports Committee chairman Soon Lip Chee in his speech at the run held on June 23.
According to the hotel’s website, the run was organise to raise fund (RM70,000) for the purchase of a new ambulance valued at about RM185,000.
The remaining amount will be co-sponsored by the Malaysian Association of Hotels (MAH), Penang Chapter, including the hotels in Batu Ferringhi/Teluk Bahang as well as from various sponsors.
“I would like to take the opportunity to thank Hard Rock Hotel Penang for your efforts in coming up with this event as well as your initiative to enhance the well-being of the community in Penang.
“And not the forgetting the runners, thank you for your kind contribution and support towards this charitable event,” Soon said.
Some 2,000 participants gathered in front of the Hard Rock Hotel as early as 6am to take part in the race which had two categories, competitive run (10.2km) and fun run (3.8km).
