CHINESE tech giant Huawei is scheduled to visit the Penang Digital Library (PDL) in two to three weeks time.
Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng said he shared the success of the digital library with the telecommunications heavyweight during his trip to Huawei’s headquarters in Shenzhen, China, recently.
“I was given a briefing on the 5G technology during my visit and I shared the success story of the Penang Digital Library with Huawei.
“I invited them to visit the library and to see if they can incorporate the 5G technology into the Penang Digital Library system.
“They have expressed their interest to visit the PDL,” Lim told a press conference at the PDL Phase Two in Jalan Masjid Negeri today.
Lim expressed hope that Huawei would be able to bring in the 5G components to the Penang Digital Library.
“The 5G technology is huge. It’s not only a game changer, it’s a life changer.
“We want not only to keep PDL up to date, but also at the cutting edge of technology.
“We cannot be stagnate. In order to progress, we have to be ready to embrace change,” Lim added.
He also congratulated Beu Tan Architect for winning the Gold Award in the Alteration and Addition Category of PAM Awards 2019.
The PAM Awards is organised by the Malaysian Institute of Architects (PAM).
Beu Tan Architect is the architect for the Penang Digital Library Phase Two, Library in the Park.
“This award is very unique, where a public-private partnership achieves success,” Lim said, acknowledging the support from the private sector such as Keysight Technologies.
Principal architect Tan Bee Eu said this was the first time the company took part in the PAM Awards.
“We want to thank the Chief Minister Incorporated and everyone who supported us,” Tan said.
Also present were Air Itam assemblyman Joseph Ng, Beu Tan Architect director Teh Young Loong and senior architect Teh Weng Jen.
