HUNGARY reopened its consular office in Penang, headed by Datuk Seri Chua Wei Kee, with jurisdiction over the states of Penang, Perak, Kedah and Perlis.

The consular office reopened after a period of five years since the retirement of its previous Honorary Consul-General, Datuk Gabor Fasketty, founder of Fastron Sdn Bhd.

State Works, Utilities and Flood Mitigation Committee chairman Zairil Khir Johari, who represented the Penang government, conveyed his utmost congratulations to the newly-appointed Honorary Consul of Hungary to the northern region.

“I am sure the newly-appointed Honorary Consul of Hungary will give his best, not only to serve the Hungarian government on whatever they need here in Malaysia and Penang, but also in representing the people of Penang and Malaysia to the Hungarian government.

“I hope this re-establishment will build the good relationship – be it in trade, culture or tourism between Hungary, Penang and Malaysia,” he added.

Also present were Hungarian ambassador to Malaysia Attila Kali, and Hungarian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Dr Akos Berzeteia and other invited guests.

Chua, on his part, said that he hoped to facilitate trade and friendship between Hungary, Penang and Malaysia.

“I believe that we can enhance our bilateral ties in terms of trade and tourism,” he added.

The consular office is located at 1-4-11 E-Gate, Lebuh Tunku Kudin 2, Gelugor, Penang.
