IA committed to helping Indian community, says its president

THE Indian Association (IA) of Penang is committed to organising various programmes that can benefit the Indian community in the state.

 

Its president Dr N. Kalaikumar said over the years, the association has organised various community programmes pertaining to education, culture, arts, entrepreneurship, sports and health.

“This was all done to nurture teamwork for the development of the Indian community and the younger generation.

 

“And of course, we will continue with such programmes for this year as well,” Dr Kalaikumar told Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow during a courtesy call on him at his office in Komtar today.

 

Dr Kalaikumar said the association also hoped to receive continuous support especially in terms of financial assistance from the state government.

 

“The is important to ensure the well-being of the Indian community in the state is well taken care of,” he added.

 

Chow said the state government is always supportive of any association or organisation that could bring good benefit to the society.

 

“And I hope the Indian Association of Penang will continue with what they are doing for the betterment of the Indian community in the state,” said Chow.

 

Dr Kalaikumar was accompanied by the association honorary secretary Shanmugasundram V. Ramasamy and other members.

 

Also present was Deputy Chief Minister II Prof Dr P. Ramasamy.
