IEM Penang ready to serve

THE Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) Penang branch has offered its expertise to bring the state to greater heights.

Its new chairman Bernard Lim said the IEM Penang branch was ready to serve and provide technical support to the state and its relevant agencies.

“We promote the engineering profession and facilitate engineering views and ideas.

“We also publish technical papers, publish code of practices, organise technical symposiums, and have active engagements with the local authorities,” Lim said when he and several delegates paid a courtesy call on Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow at his office in Komtar today.

Lim said that IEM Penang branch was one of the founding members of the Penang Skills Development Corporation (PSDC).

“We believe that we can work with the state and attain great achievements together.

“We believe that digitalisation, artificial intelligence and human capital are the way forward,” he said.

IEM national president Ong Ching Loon, who was present, was grateful to be given an opportunity to exchange views with Chow.

He told Chow that Penang had transformed into a better state.

“The state will be able to benefit from the wide range of professional engineers available in Penang.

Chow said Penang has been stressing the importance of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering Mathematics) subjects.

He also hoped to strengthen the cooperation between the state government and the IEM Penang branch.
