A total of 1,500 participants joined the ‘Occupy Beach Street (OBS) Balik Kampung Run’ today.

The enthusiastic crowd, clad in green jerseys, was seen gathered in the vicinity of Beach Street as early as 6am this morning.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, who flagged off the run at about 7am, highlighted the importance of sports events in fostering closer bonds within a community.

“Sports play a pivotal role in realising the Penang2030 vision.

“Therefore, I would like to commend everyone, including the organisers, for their efforts in making this morning’s run a success.

“The event promotes unity among participants and contributes to building a family-focused, green, and smart state that inspires the nation,” Chow said before flagging off the run.

Chow also urged everyone to make family-centred sports events a platform to connect, show respect, and strengthen harmony in the state.

“Let us embrace the ‘LovePENANG’ spirit to tackle challenges together and build a resilient, progressive state combined with a caring community.

“It is hoped that this event would further enhance the state’s tourism,” Chow added.

The ‘OBS Balik Kampung Run’ is a 5km run organised by TLM Event.
