THE Village Community Management Council (MPKK) of Taman Trafik came in for some praise for organising their annual Chinese New Year celebration at its gardens in Jalan Nirvana every year since 2008.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow recorded his appreciation to the Taman Trafik MPKK chairman Ong Lin Teong and his members in his speech.
He said he hoped the MPKK would continue doing so since former assemblyman Ng Wei Aik started organising the function in 2008.
But apart from continuing the tradition, Chow said throughout the year, MPKK’s responsibility is to go to the ground to ensure everything is taken care of.
“I hope the basic problems faced by the rakyat here will be brought up to the councillors for the government agencies to take immediate action,” Chow said in his speech at the Taman Trafik Chinese New Year celebration at its gardens today.
He said two councillors – Wong Yuee Harng and Alan Lim Wei Lun – have been appointed to look after the Tanjung constituency for about four terms and first term respectively.
“Wong may be small in size but is a prominent figure in the constituency because he is very active in ensuring and monitoring that the council come out with the right policies. He also takes action arising from complaints and suggestions from the rakyat.
“Alan used to the secretary of the Taman Trafik MPKK. He is a lawyer by profession and I am sure he will be able to use his experience and expertise to serve the constituents in this area.”
Chow also commended state assembly representative Teh Lai Heng for working tirelessly to serve the residents there when he was first a councillor before becoming the state representative there.
He expressed confidence that all of them in the team for Tanjung would continue to assist him as the MP for the area and also as the Chief Minister for the state of Penang.
Teh, in his speech, said although the official Chinese New Year celebration was over, the event today made the people feel that the festivity was still in the air.
He also thanked the MPKK members for their efforts and urged the local leaders and members to act as a bridge for the community and government.
Teh also said the Anson Road market would be upgraded in March or April if things turn out smoothly.
Chow later mingled with the crowd, accompanied by Teh, Wong, Lim and Ong.
Chow also presented angpows to invited guests from from Sekolah Kanak-kanak Terencat Akal, Rumah Amal Cheshire Home and Penang Buddhist Association Senior Citizens’ Home.
