Improving road users’ safety in Seri Delima

IN a bid to curb the number of accident cases in Seri Delima, its elected representative and the Public Works Department (PWD) are working hand in hand to improve the road structure at the intersection of Jalan Delima and Jalan Masjid Negeri.

Syerleena Abd Rashid, who was elected Seri Delima assemblyman in 2018, is extra vigilant when it comes to the safety of the residents.

Previously, she said the place was an accident-prone area and that was why the Public Works Department (PWD) had decided to put up a 30-metre long concrete traffic barrier.

“This is important to prevent motorists from making an illegal U-turn when reaching the intersection.

“For instance, an accident happened at the place last month involving a secondary school teacher. Fortunately, nothing serious took place.

“As an elected representative of Seri Delima, it’s my responsibility to ensure that the safety of my constituents is taken care of,” she told reporters after inspecting the completion of the traffic barrier.

The work for the RM8,000 traffic barrier started on Nov 21.

On plans to build a proper pedestrian walkway along Jalan Delima, Syerleena said she was awaiting greenlight from the federal agency.

“We want to make sure the residents in the vicinity can have a better walkway,” she said.

Meanwhile, PWD assistant civil engineer Mohd Rashid Baharom said an allocation of RM1.2 million had already been allocated for Seri Delima’s public infrastructure this year.
