THE ‘Jom Beli’ online programme (JBO@MBPP), introduced by the Penang Island City Council (MBPP), has received an overwhelming response from nearly 400 hawkers and traders on the island.
According to Penang Island City Council (MBPP) mayor Datuk Yew Tung Seang the ‘Jom Beli’ programme would play a vital role in enhancing the economic sector, especially during this pandemic period.
“In order to ensure public health and safety, I urge all the traders and hawkers to adapt themselves to the new norm in doing business.
“It is essential for them to embrace the digital economy as this is the way forward to enhance the economic sector.
“Thus, the MBPP has created this digital platform for our traders and hawkers to further boost their businesses,’’ said Yew during a press conference held after the full board council meeting today via zoom today.
Yew also added that the council’s digital transformation team was ever ready to assist the hawkers and traders to go about with the online platform (JBO@MBPP).
“The traders and hawkers can contact us if they need any kind of assistance to go online with their businesses,’’ said Yew.
Apart from that, Yew also said the platform tend to be fruitful for durian sellers who had registered for the programme.
“There are many durian sellers who are coming on board, and we are receiving positive feedback from them.
“Some even said that they are running out of supply due to many orders received through the online platform.
“Moreover, next month will be the peak season for durian,’’ added Yew.
On a separate matter, MBPP councillor Wong Yuee Harng stated that the MBPP has approved the application on the instalment of 145 additional car park spaces at Jalan Servis beside Jalan Permatang Damar Laut, Solok Kekabu 1, Jalan Damar, Lorong Damar 1 ,Solok Beringin and Solok Beringin 1.
