STRATIFIED homes, particularly old housing schemes without water tanks, can apply to local authorities, Penang Housing Board, or Penang Water Supply Corporation (PBAPP) for installation.

State Housing and Environment Committee chairman Datuk Seri Sundarajoo Somu (PH-Perai) shared this information during the State Legislative Assembly at the State Assembly building in Light Street today.

“Some buildings constructed before the Act was enacted in 2006 do not have the large rooftop water tanks or smaller water tanks inside the units. In some cases, they lack both types of water tanks.

“After the Water Services Industry Act 2006 (Act 665) was enacted in 2006, these problems were resolved,” Sundarajoo said.

Sundarajoo also highlighted that PBAPP requires the installation of water tanks with a capacity of at least 300 gallons in both stratified and landed housing schemes.

“The Joint Management Body (JMB) and Management Committee (MC) should take the initiative to instal the water tanks. They can either apply to local authorities or the Penang Housing Board. Water tanks are important and are a necessity,” Sundarajoo added.

Apart from that, Sundarajoo shared that the state provides housing maintenance support through the Penang Maximum 80% Maintenance Fund (TPM80PP), where the state government covers 80% of the expenses while the remaining 20% is borne by the JMB or MC.
