BIRDWATCHERS or birders are welcome to join the upcoming birdwatching programme at Penang Hill on Saturday (July 20).
The annual programme is organised by the Malaysian Nature Society (MNS) Penang branch, in collaboration with Penang Hill Corporation (PHC), as part of the Penang Hill Festival.
MNS Penang branch adviser Kanda Kumar encouraged bird enthusiasts to join the programme to learn more about various bird species at Penang Hill.
“Through this programme, we want to educate the people about bird species, their behaviours, and ecosystems, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of wildlife and nature conservation.
“Engaging with nature through birdwatching activity also can reduce stress, anxiety, and depression. The calming effect of nature and the focus required for birdwatching can improve mental well-being.
“Participants in this programme can expect to see most of the common birds in Penang Hill, and if we are lucky, we will spot some of the rarest ones, especially the migrant birds,” Kanda told Buletin Mutiara when contacted today.
According to Kanda, there will be no fees for participants joining the event.
“Participants also are encouraged to bring their own binoculars as the binoculars provided are limited in quantity. They also encourage to bring their own raincoats and umbrellas, in case of rain,” he said.
Interested participants can register themselves at https://bit.ly/49mklXL . Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis as places are limited.
The birdwatching programme will start at 8.30am until 10.30am. The meeting point is at Penang Hill Lower Station.
