EXCO member for Local Government, Traffic Management and Flood Mitigation Chow Kon Yeow, who is Padang Kota assemblymember and also Penang DAP chairman, held a joyous Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house at the Kedah Road flats on July 23.
Over 1,000 people were treated to delicious food and the underprivileged were given duit Raya.
Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng and exco member Datuk Abdul Malik Kassim also joined Chow in the celebration.
“I agree with what Datuk Malik said just now. The Penang Pakatan Harapan state government is a pro-rakyat government. I am sure the rakyat support and approve the leadership of Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng in the last eight years. We have seen much improvement here,” Chow said in his speech.
“Your support has been an encouragement to us to continue the competent, accountable and transparent (CAT) administration,” he added.
Meanwhile, support from the people was obvious when they cheered the arrival of Lim and many people rushed forward to greet him and some even gave him pats on the back with encouraging words.
Chow gave away duit Raya to children while a group of visual impaired individuals were also not forgotten.
The crowd at the Kedah Road flats is multi-racial and lives in harmony.
Despite the heavy rain, they turned out to celebrate with the state leaders.
Lim, who delivered a very motivating speech touching on the 1MDB scandal and also his court case, ended with this quote: “The rain is very heavy tonight. Just like the challenges we are facing, which is like the rain, they will also pass. As long as we persevere and be brave because of truth, we will overcome.”
