THE Padang Kota Women and Family Development Committee (JPWK Padang Kota) is all set to hold a special event, the Women’s Empowerment Market, at the New World Park in George Town this weekend from 11am to 7pm.
Its chairperson Datin Anna Yeoh Phaik Suan expressed her delight at the prospect of hosting 24 booths on July 29 and 30.
The market will feature an array of interesting products, ranging from handicrafts, attires, food, decorative items and even service-related products, all brought forth by enthusiastic women entrepreneurs.
“We’re proud that we have women vendors who are more than willing to bring in various product businesses here to share with us. These strong women here each deserve an outlet to showcase their goods.
“We, women, have immense potential as catalysts of change at the individual, household, and community levels. Failing to heed women’s voices about development represents a significant missed opportunity for any society.
“Empowering women is imperative for our Penang community and economy if we want to achieve Vision 2030. It has been proven that investing in women and empowering women-focused enterprises is the key to achieving sustainable development.
“Although organisations and companies in both the private and public sectors as well as governments are taking active steps to improve the financial inclusion of women, we are very far from the finish line. So, there are still a lot of opportunities for women to come forward in the marketplace,” Yeoh said.
She added that women play a key role in the success of families and communities and reiterated that investing in women is one of the most effective ways to fight poverty and build healthier, wealthier, and more educated communities.
Financial independence leads to greater confidence among women, allowing them to walk tall and proud.
She expressed her gratitude to various organisations, including the Penang Women’s Development Corporation, Happy Star Fitness Group, New World Park management, and all the participants for their unwavering support.
Alongside the marketplace, attendees can enjoy dance performances and engaging fun games as part of the event’s activities.
Yeoh urged the public to come forward and show their support as well as enjoy the event.
