THE waiting is over for the residents in Kampung Baru Alma as they have obtained the land approval to build a multipurpose hall in their neighbourhood.

State executive councillor Chong Eng, who is also the Padang Lalang assemblyman, was delighted to share the news during the Padang Lalang and MPKK Kampung Baru Alma Hari Raya Open House today.

“My office, together with the Kampung Baru Alma Village Community Management Council (MPKK), have been trying for a long time to get the approval.

“Finally, after so many years we have gotten the approval. Now, we just need to wait for the budget to be approved before moving on to the next step.

“I hope everything will go on smoothly and we will be able to see a multipurpose hall in Kampung Baru Alma,” Chong Eng said during her speech at the event.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, who was the guest of honour at the event, said he hoped that the budget for the project (multipurpose hall) could be listed in the 2023 Penang Budget.

“Two months ago, when I attended the opening ceremony of the hall in Permatang Pasir, the district officer from central Seberang Perai (SPT) told me that there are plans to build a community hall in every constituency of SPT.

“This includes the Padang Lalang constituency.

“So, I believe YB Chong Eng and the district officer will follow up on the matter about the budget approval for the multipurpose hall with the relevant authorities,” Chow said.

Apart from that, Chow also said that to tackle the issues of flash floods in the Kampung Baru Alma neighbourhood, the state government would be implementing a flood mitigation project costing RM490,000.

“As the state government is concerned about the flash flood woes in Kampung Baru Alma, we will be constructing a pump house to mitigate them.

“The state government always gives attention to the areas that need allocation for infrastructure development and welfare.

“I have always said that I wish to see the development in Seberang Perai getting  better every year.

“This is because the future of Penang is in Seberang Perai as it has a lot of potential in terms of economy, agriculture, social development and many others,” he added.
