THE major redevelopment project at Kampung Manis is approaching a significant milestone, with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the involved parties scheduled for this Monday (Nov 11).

Penang Housing and Environment Committee chairman Datuk Seri Sundarajoo Somu announced that the MoU would formalise cooperation between the Railway Asset Corporation (RAC) and the Penang Housing Board (LPNPP).

Sundarajoo also noted that a Head of Agreement (HoA) ceremony would be held concurrently between RAC and Rivanis Ventures Sdn Bhd to address the longstanding issues affecting Kampung Manis residents.

“The Kampung Manis redevelopment project is one of the key initiatives within the Perai constituency aimed at improving residents’ quality of life.

“This underscores the state government’s dedication to resolving the enduring challenges faced by Kampung Manis residents,” Sundarajoo said during the Perai constituency’s Deepavali Open House held at the Chai Leng Park Multipurpose Hall yesterday (Nov 9).

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow emphasised that the urban redevelopment project would not affect the original residents of the neighbourhood.

“Once the redevelopment is completed, Kampung Manis residents will benefit from quality homes equipped with essential facilities.

“In the future, we also plan to undertake the Kampung Main Road redevelopment project.

“With the collaboration of the Federal Government, local communities, and the private sector, Penang is poised for progress,” Chow said.

Chow also commended Sundarajoo’s dedication and leadership as a state executive councillor and Perai assemblyman.

The event was attended by Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak, Human Resources Minister Steven Sim, who is also the Bukit Mertajam MP, Bagan MP Lim Guan Eng, Penang Island City Council mayor Datuk A. Rajendran, and other distinguished guests.
