Keeping abreast with the digital economy

The 30th anniversary of Silverlake group and its conference on the ‘Digital Collaboration & Transformation’ (DCTx2018) on Sept 22 at Shangri-La’s Rasa Sayang Resort attracted the participation of 270 delegates from 17 countries.

The conference, with Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow as its Guest of Honour, served to highlight what’s latest in the global digital economy especially on the milestones and new way of doing things involving Financial Technology (FinTech).

Chow, in his speech, highlighted the important and epoch-making changes taking place in financial institutions with technology making inroads to change how things are carried out today.

“Without a doubt, technology will be a key driver of innovation in the financial industry, bringing us to – FinTech or Financial Technology, which all of you are familiar with and some of you are leading similar programs in your institutions. The introduction of FinTech may has disrupted traditional businesses such as payment, lending or advisory, but the same technology has also made financial services invisible like air – essential, everywhere, effortless,” he said.

“Like Silverlake Axis, Penang has been through similar phases of transformation: From high-tech manufacturing to technology entrepreneur hub where our “Tech-Penangites” and enterprises are partnering to utilise technologies to gain the business competitiveness and achieve customer experience,” the chief minister added.

Renowned commentator and financial markets strategist Chris Skinner who authored the book ‘Digital Human’ and Khazanah Nasional Bhd managing director Datuk Shahril Ridza Ridzuan were among the invited speakers who shared their experiences on the marvels of FinTech in their respective areas.

Also present were Silverlake Axis’s founder and Group executive chairman Goh Peng Ooi as well as CEO and Group Managing Director Dr Raymond Kwong.
